FICO raised guidance. Scores supplied 98% of revenue growth
FICO revenue rose 26% and EPS 41%. The filings show how Scores pricing, segment margins and buybacks contributed to the results.
FICO
In short
FICO raised every line of fiscal 2026 guidance. June-quarter revenue rose 25.7% and diluted EPS rose 41.2%.
- Means
- Growth is concentrated: Scores is 68.1% of revenue at a 90.8% margin and supplied 97.7% of the increase — on one product's price. A quarter of EPS growth came from buybacks.
- Market
- This article examines company disclosures and their financial implications. It does not publish market prices or measure the trading reaction.
- Watch
- Fiscal 2026 ends 30 September, so the raise is near a statement of fact. The 10-Q never addresses the mortgage-score price behind it, and its risk factors point to a report ten months old.
Fair Isaac’s June quarter combined 26% revenue growth with 41% diluted earnings-per-share growth. The company raised its fiscal-year guidance. The segment accounts show where the growth came from and what those forecasts leave unresolved.
The quarter, and the raise
| Q3 FY2026 | Q3 FY2025 | Change | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Revenue | $674.2M | $536.4M | +25.7% |
| Net income | $237.2M | $181.8M | +30.5% |
| Diluted EPS | $10.45 | $7.40 | +41.2% |
| Operating cash flow | $380.4M | $286.2M | +32.9% |
| Fiscal 2026 guidance | Previous | Updated |
|---|---|---|
| Revenue | $2.45B | $2.53B |
| GAAP net income | $825M | $850M |
| GAAP EPS | $35.60 | $36.86 |
| Non-GAAP net income | $946M | $979M |
| Non-GAAP EPS | $40.45 | $42.43 |
Nothing was cut. Revenue guidance went up 3.3% and non-GAAP EPS guidance up 4.9%.
Where the growth came from
FICO reports two segments. In the June quarter they behaved almost nothing alike.
| Segment | Revenue | Y/Y | Segment operating income | Margin |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Scores | $458.9M | +41% | $416.9M | 90.8% |
| Software | $215.3M | +2% | $55.0M | 25.6% |
Scores is 68.1% of revenue and earns a 90.8% segment operating margin. Software grew 2%, and its segment operating income fell $12.9 million year over year as segment expenses rose $16.1 million against a $3.2 million revenue gain.
Put the two together and the growth is not distributed at all.
Share of revenue growth contributed by Scores
Scores increase $458.9M − $324.3M = $134.6M Total increase $674.2M − $536.4M = $137.8M ────────── Scores share of growth 97.7%
Segment revenues from the Q3 FY2026 earnings release. Total revenue rose $137.8M year over year; Scores accounted for $134.6M of it.
And within Scores, the company is specific about the driver. Both the earnings release and the 10-Q attribute the business-to-business increase to the same thing:
The increase in business-to-business scores revenue was primarily attributable to a higher mortgage origination scores unit price.
Not volume. Not new products. Not a new market. Unit price, on mortgage origination scores.
So: 97.7% of the growth came from one segment; the majority of that segment’s growth came from raising the price of one product sold into one end market. That is an extremely efficient business and an extremely concentrated one, and those are the same fact viewed from two sides.
The earnings-per-share amplifier
EPS grew 41.2% while net income grew 30.5%. The gap is not operations.
| Jun 30 2026 | Jun 30 2025 | Change | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Diluted weighted-average shares | 21,597K | 24,096K | −10.4% |
| Repurchases, quarter | $2,278.9M | $511.3M | — |
| Repurchases, nine months | $3,046.0M | $866.5M | — |
The company bought back $2.28 billion of its own stock in a single quarter. Nine-month repurchases were $3.05 billion, three and a half times the prior year.
This is not hidden and it is not improper — it is a deliberate capital allocation choice, and it is disclosed. But it does mean that a reader comparing EPS growth to revenue growth is comparing two numbers that are not measuring the same thing. Roughly ten of the forty-one percentage points of EPS growth came from there being fewer shares.
It also shows up on the balance sheet. Treasury stock stands at $10.28 billion and total stockholders’ equity is negative $4.10 billion. In March the company issued $1.0 billion of 6.250% senior notes due 2034, with stated uses including repayment of revolver borrowings, the redemption of $400 million of 2026 notes, and general corporate purposes “which may include repurchases of common stock.”
What the filing does not discuss
Here is the part that a reader checking the primary documents will notice.
The 10-Q filed the same day runs to 149,000 characters. Searching it for the words that dominated the commentary around this stock — the name of the competing score, the housing regulator, the direct licensing programme — returns nothing. The management discussion attributes growth to a higher unit price and does not address what happens to that price.
This is not a disclosure failure. Quarterly reports commonly carry risk factors by reference rather than restating them, and Item 1A of this 10-Q does exactly that — it directs readers to the risk factors in the annual report for the fiscal year ended 30 September 2025. Whatever the competitive picture is, the place it is described is a document written ten months earlier.
Guidance covers a fiscal year ending 30 September 2026. Two months of it remained.
We are not going to model the competitive outcome here, because we cannot source it to a document. What can be sourced is the shape of the exposure: 68% of revenue, 91% segment margins, and a growth rate that the company itself attributes to unit pricing.
Limits of this analysis
- The fiscal year is nearly over. The guidance raise mainly updates the near-term outlook; it does not settle the longer-term pricing question.
- Consensus estimates are not verified or used in this analysis.
- The absence of competitor discussion in the 10-Q proves nothing about the competitive situation. It is normal practice to carry risk factors by reference. What it establishes is narrower: the quarterly document does not resolve the longer-term pricing question raised in this analysis.
- Segment margins are as the company allocates them. $57.0M of corporate expense and $52.3M of share-based compensation are unallocated. A different allocation would produce different segment margins; the 90.8% figure is FICO’s own presentation, and total segment income reconciles to reported operating income of $362.6M.
- These are unaudited quarterly figures. The fiscal-year 10-K will follow.

Questions this answers
- How much of FICO's revenue comes from the Scores segment?
- Scores generated $458.9 million of $674.2 million in total revenue for the quarter ended 30 June 2026, or 68.1%. It also accounted for 97.7% of the year-over-year revenue increase, with the Software segment growing 2%.
- What is FICO's Scores segment operating margin?
- The Scores segment reported operating income of $416.9 million on revenue of $458.9 million in fiscal Q3 2026, a segment operating margin of 90.8%. The Software segment margin was 25.6% over the same period.
- Why did FICO's earnings per share grow faster than its net income?
- Net income rose 30.5% year over year while diluted EPS rose 41.2%. The difference comes from share repurchases: diluted weighted-average shares fell 10.4%, from 24,096 thousand to 21,597 thousand, after $2.28 billion of buybacks in the quarter alone.
- Did FICO cut its guidance in July 2026?
- No. FICO raised every line of its fiscal 2026 guidance: revenue from $2.45B to $2.53B, GAAP net income from $825M to $850M, GAAP EPS from $35.60 to $36.86, and non-GAAP EPS from $40.45 to $42.43.
- Why does FICO have negative shareholders' equity?
- Treasury stock of $10.28 billion from sustained share repurchases exceeds paid-in capital and retained earnings, leaving total stockholders' equity at negative $4.10 billion as of 30 June 2026. Negative equity from buybacks is an accounting outcome, not a solvency measure.
